House will spend three full days debating Iraq

WASHINGTON (CNN) — House Democratic Leaders will allow three full days of debate on an Iraq resolution condemning the troop increase, Democratic Caucus Chairman Rahm Emanuel said during a press conference Tuesday.

Each member will be allotted five minutes on the floor and the debate is expected to go well into each night.

When asked about the impact of debating a non-binding resolution, Emanuel said, “Some say it’s non-binding and therefore not meaningful. For all the energy going into try to stop a vote on it, it tells you how important it is.”

Emanuel referred to the vote on the resolution as “the first of a series of steps” that the House will take on Iraq. He mentioned the $93.4 billion in supplemental war funding for 2007, the 2008 defense budget, and discussion of Iran as “other attempts to express views.”

Good grief! Three FULL days spent on griping and complaining about the Bush administration, slamming the military in the middle of a war. I’m so impressed with the new Congress. (insert major sarcasm)
