Search for oil raises the stakes in Darfur

The Sudanese government is quietly escalating oil exploration inside the Darfur region, a step that has led to protests from rebel leaders in a volatile area where more than 200,000 people have been killed during three years of fighting.

And it’s NOT Exxon. Evidently, people dying in mass doesn’t bother the Sudanese government, or the Saudis either, it seems.

Building ordered vacated

City building inspectors issued an order Friday for residents to vacate West Samaria, a 92-bed rooming house for people with mental illness, after reports in the Journal Sentinel revealed that a man’s dead body went unnoticed there for days this winter.

I’d say this action was a tad bass akwards. Shouldn’t they get rid of the current the staff, and replace them with reliable folks, instead of tossing the ill out on their keisters?

6 Sunnis Killed for Meeting With Shiites

The attack near Youssifiyah, 12 miles south of the Iraqi capital, was apparently connected to rising sectarian violence that has included the claimed abduction and execution Friday of at least 14 members of the Shiite-led security forces. But in this case, Iraqi authorities said they believed Sunni gunmen had killed fellow Sunnis – revealing a rift between those who support reconciliation with Shiites and those who will kill to stop it.

A three state Iraq is starting to make more sense. Until these people can grow up, start behaving like mature adults, and get along with their neighbors, they should be put in separate play pens.

Owners peddle IDs to migrants

It’s known that millions of illegal immigrants hold jobs thanks to fraudulent identities. Government raids at meatpacking plants in six states in December stemmed from an investigation that uncovered up to 4,300 workers with questionable documentation.
(…)
In all, seven defendants from the Corpus Christi area pleaded guilty this week to selling their birth certificates and Social Security cards for $100 each. Seven more defendants pleaded guilty to buying or reselling the documents as part of a ring that sold documents to illegal immigrants seeking jobs in Dodge City, Kan.

How stupid do you have to be to sell your own identity? “We have met the enemy, and they are ours.”

Rap music taking a dive, for lack of a positive vibe

Maybe it was the umpteenth coke-dealing anthem or soft-porn music video. Perhaps it was the preening antics that some call reminiscent of Stepin Fetchit. The turning point is hard to pinpoint. But after 30 years of growing popularity, rap music is struggling with an alarming sales decline and growing criticism from within about the culture’s negative effect on society.

It’s about time someone noticed! Using the words “rap” and “music” in the same sentence is pretty much an oxymoron, doncha think? The only thing I’ve seen come out of that sort of….noise….is violence, and my windows rattling, thanks to morons who evidently don’t care much for their hearing and want to take mine with theirs.

Bredesen uncertain about increased Guard duties on border

“There’s always a concern about using the military for police purposes within (U.S.) borders,” Bredesen said while visiting Tennessee guard troops near the Arizona-Mexico border on Thursday. “And at the same time, these are very well-trained people, and the problem is obviously enormous.”

Do Democrats have to go to “Idiot School” before they can be elected to any office? The purpose of the National Guard is to…..gasp…..GUARD THE NATION! True, there are idiots on both sides of the aisle, but I honestly think Dems give out more scholarships.
