Family dog woes brought to Fox Lake Council

When the Baun family — mother Angel, father Brian, and 3-year-old daughter Payton — moved to Fox Lake more than a year ago, they thought they could keep their three dogs in their house under a municipal ordinance that allows for houses within the Fox Lake city limits to keep four pets. However, the ordinance specifically states that those four pets must be two cats and two dogs.

Legislating how many of each critters you can have is a new low. Yes, I do understand the need to limit the number of animals a household can have within the city limits. If they tell you a maximum of four, then it shouldn’t matter of which flavor.

City council members appeared sympathetic to Freckles’s plight, but city administrator Bill Petracek told the city council its hands are tied, at least temporarily.

Horse manure! They could fix this problem with one vote.

So Freckles and the rest of the Baun family will re-appear before the committee of the whole meeting March 21. In the meantime, Angel Baun said the family intended to put their house up for sale once the newest member of the Baun family has arrived. The Baun’s will head for more pet-friendly turf, she said.

Good for them! No doubt they’ll do a little more checking wherever they decide to move. Hopefully, it won’t be a town run by egotistical idjits.

  1. A question that I have is why is it that “poor Freckles” had to be the one to leave? There were two other dogs, so why weren’t they choosen? Those other two dogs they have are menaces. Freckles is the good one of the bunch.

  2. Well, none of that story makes any sense to me. I could understand the city putting their foot down if they had maybe 10 dogs and 20 cats, but… :/

  3. I agree. We had 20 cats one time and 3 dogs ate them. And no one complained.
