I don’t know how I missed this letter to the editor this morning. 🙂
In regard to the non-Republican editorial writers supporting Rep. Tom Petri’s vote: I would like to point out that we Republicans are upset with Mr. Petri’s vote on the troop surge because it was not constructive legislation, but rather a meaningless, non-binding resolution meant to embarrass the president, and it not only demoralizes our troops, but gives comfort and incentive to the enemy.
You obviously do not understand that we are in a fight for our very survival. By 2050 it will not matter if we have any of the social programs that Democrats are always pushing on society because we will be gone. If we give up, terrorists will have their way and America will be no more — largely because of Democrats playing politics and Republicans who can’t see through it.
These writers obviously do not understand that the commentary on this vote was a Republican conversation, encouraged by constituents infuriated by Petri’s vote. It was not meant for Democrats, but rather for those of us who are tired of our Republican representatives not representing us, as we work hard to elect them to do.
It’s not simply an issue of partisanship, but rather of supporting the commander-in-chief, who receives the most comprehensive reports regarding the war and the only one to lay out a legitimate plan without abandoning the Iraqis or infringing on their democratically approved constitution.
Furthermore, contrary to your statements, nothing comes before God and country in our party.
People like Mr. Zeleske, Mr. Mathes and Mr. Beaster scare me. They should read their history and think about American heroes who fought and died so they could editorialize their ignorant, unconstructive, hate-filled messages.
May God continue to bless America.
