An Ol’ Broad’s Ramblings

I love movies. It’s a great way to escape now and then. I prefer books because of the “theater of the mind” thing. I watch many movies a number of times, mostly so I don’t have to pay attention. I watched Rocky Balboa this morning (which has a few really good messages), and just finished watching Eragon.

I realize that actors act. They become someone other than who they really are…usually. I’m having a tough time reconciling this

Ok, so it wasn’t a great movie, but it was fairly entertaining, especially if ya like the sci-fi fantasy type stuff, which I do. 🙂

I’m not a movie reviewer type.  Usually, I’ll like something the critics don’t.  Guess I’m just weird that way.

  1. Carlyle was absolutely terrific in Marilyn Hotchkiss’s Ballroom Dancing and Charm School….I highly recommend it….

Rocky Balboa was terrific…one of the best (right behind I & II….I don’t count the others….)….

I’ve never seen Eragon…though I really like Jeremy Irons…I’ll have to check it out….though I think his performance as an Eloi in “The Time Machine” scarred me for life 🙂

  2. I have not seen the movie yet, But have read the book, as well as the followup called Eldest. All I can say is it is the best Series going this side of Harry Potter…if you have not read the book, do not let the movie stear you away from picking it up. The author Paolini had it published before he finished high school. Very Talented

  3. I’ve seen that book a few times, and always thought it would be interesting. But since I’ve got about a 1000 I haven’t even read yet (slight exaggeration), I thought I should hold off. 🙂

I really like Carlyle in Hamish….something or other. Can’t remember the name…it was a BBC thing. I think it’s got to be the accent. We females go gaga over accents…like Sean Connery. 🙂

  4. Ok…NOW I’ve seen “eragon”, and I have to say I LOVED it…..I really did….especially the fine soundtrack by Patrick Doyle….

I’m well aware of the outcry by book loyalists tho…but since I didn’t read the book….I’m not tainted by that bias and thus I can draw my own conclusion about what I just saw….

    I was entertained…..

Now, if I’d read the book…that may be a whole ‘nuther story 🙂

  5. Yeah, that’s the bad thing about reading a book before ya see the movie. Maybe now that I’ve seen it, I’ll have to read it. 🙂

I guess there’s no way to recreate what is in the mind onto film. They seriously messed Stephen King’s The stand when they made that gawdawful made for tv piece of… 🙂 Although, Gary Sinise wasn’t too bad. 🙂
