An Ol’ Broad’s Ramblings

Tennessee Touchdown

I have arrived back in Tennessee. Actually, I’ve been here about 4 hours, but after unloading the car and getting some laundry started, the vegetation time set in.

This dial up stuff is starting to grate, so what is sitting on the counter that had arrived in the mail when Mr. Ol’ Broad was down here last week? A notice that there is Wild Blu available in the area. sigh… Welp, I guess I’ll just have to check into that on Monday. I’m too out of it today.

I did stop at the casino in Caruthersville. Lucky me – I earned a deck of cards with the Casino Aztar logo and a hole drilled through them. Why? The best part? I got a $20 food voucher. Ok, I wasn’t expecting to win and I definitely wasn’t disappointed. It’s not a great place, although I didn’t check out the whole place. It looks like a phony river boat, which is what it is….a phony river boat.

Food review: I ate at Corky’s in the lobby type area of the casino. It’s a BBQ place, so I had….drum roll please……..BBQ. I have to admit, it wasn’t too shabby. It could have used a bit more bbq taste, but hey, I’m a Texan, so I think that no matter how good it is. The ribs actually had meat on them. And I mean a LOT of meat with the right amount of fat to make it seriously, fall of the bone, tender. Just in case you have reason to be on that section of I-55, I’d actually recommend the place. It’s only about 5 miles off the freeway and they’ve got $2.00 valet parking. How can ya go wrong? πŸ™‚

Yep, there’s a big ol’ tree down in the front yard. I have no idea how I’m going to get it deal with, but where there’s a will, there’s a way, right? Hmmm….nope. I don’t think I’ll go buy a chain saw. That would be extremely dangerous for a person who can barely walk and chew gum at the same time.

I have a feeling this is going to be a very busy week or so. sigh….

  1. The casino drills a hole through used decks so the cards can’t be “reused” in the casino by less than honest players.

  3. Corky’s is a chain out of Memphis and has consitently fine Tennessee style BBQ. You can have it delivered right to the house over the Internet as well.

As long as you’re dealing with that part of the world you might as well get used to deep fried dill pickles, too. The ones at BB King’s in Memphis come with a horseradish tinged dipping sauce that ain’t half bad. Just stay away from the BBQ at King’s.

  4. As a born and bred southerner, there some things even I won’t eat…and a fried pickle is one of ’em! LOL

I haven’t seen a Corky’s around here, but then, I’m out in the boonies. I’m stuck with dial-up, so that should tell ya how far out in the boonies I am. πŸ™‚
