Air controllers tie safety to workload

Some veteran air-traffic controllers in Atlanta say they are working too many overtime shifts as the result of chronic understaffing, which they contend endangers air safety.

I’d say that was a serious DUH! Of course, if the controllers are tired, they aren’t going to be terribly alert. That’s one job I don’t think I could handle. I have a lot of admiration for those folks. It takes a lot of concentration and patience.

President Calls for Responsible War-Spending Bill in Radio Address

Army Gen. David H. Petraeus, the coalition’s commander in Iraq, is still in the early stages of implementing a new strategy to help Iraq secure its capital so the Iraqi people can build a free nation that respects the rights of its people, upholds the rule of law, and fights extremists alongside the United States in the war on terror, Bush said.

This strategy wouldn’t have had a chance to succeed had the president signed the emergency war-spending bill Congress submitted, the president said.

It would be nice if the soldiers were allowed to start kicking some serious butt, without worrying about the Dhimmis putting a time limit on them.

Itsy Bitsy Earache Turns Into Arachnid Infestation

A 9-year-old boy who complained of an earache was a little surprised when the doctor told him that a pair of spiders had tried to make a home out of him.

“They were walking on my eardrums,” said Jesse Courtney.

Ewwwwww! That makes my ears hurt!  Not to mention my skin crawl.

Students and loans: ‘Til death do us part

They are former students trapped under the weight of student loans. The same vehicle that allowed them to get a college education has left many graduates buried in debt with no reasonable way to climb out.

There is something real wrong with a system that helps you get an education, but buries you up to your eyeballs in debt.

Afghan soldier kills 2 US troops outside top-security jail

An Afghan soldier shot and killed two US troops Sunday outside a top-security prison being revamped to house Afghans transferred from the Guantanamo Bay detention camp, a US military spokesman said.

The gunman was shot dead by other Afghan troops at Pul-e-Charkhi prison, some 20 miles east of Kabul, said Maj. Sheldon Smith, a spokesman for Combined Security Transition Command, which trains Afghan security forces. The shooter also wounded two US soldiers.

Military trials, swift execution if they are found guilty. Problem solved.

French Voters Pick Sarkozy to Be President; Turnout High

With 86 percent of the vote counted, the conservative former interior minister won 53.3 percent, according to preliminary results from the Interior Ministry. His Socialist Party rival, Ségolène Royal, received 46.7 percent, ending her quest to become France’s first woman president and dealing a severe blow to her party. Turnout was estimated at 85 percent of France’s 44.5 million registered voters.

Only time will tell if this is a good thing for the U.S. That voter turnout should really put us to shame. We have a privilege that too few take seriously.

Republicans defect to the Obama camp

DISILLUSIONED supporters of President George W Bush are defecting to Barack Obama, the Democratic senator for Illinois, as the White House candidate with the best chance of uniting a divided nation.

Ok, being disillusioned is one thing. Getting completely stupid is something all together different. Let’s not go nuts people. Obama is NOT the answer!

  1. Can we have a discussion around President Reagan’s actions toward the air traffic system in this country now?

  2. You mean when he stood up to the union? Sure, how many unions should we stand up to. Reagan was then, this is now. What are the answers to today’s problems?

  3. I could have done without the spider story! ewww! Now every time one of my kids gets an earache, I’m going to be afraid there’s some “thing” in there.
