Middle school student shot during lunch break

A 15-year-old boy told officers he was shot in the leg during a lunch break at Hulcy Middle School, Dallas police said Monday.

The boy and some friends told police they had left the school in the 9300 block of South Polk Street and were walking in the south Dallas neighborhood near Danieldale Road when they became involved in argument with a resident, police said.

The resident fired at the students and the 15-year-old was hit in the leg. The students ran back to the middle school seeking help, police said.

Police said the shooting suspect was in custody. The suspect’s identity was not immediately available.

The Dallas school district did not immediately return a call from The Dallas Morning News.

I have a few questions about this story.

One: What is a 15 year old still doing in middle school?

Two: Why are middle school kids leaving the school grounds during school hours?

Three:  Why do I get the impression these kids were copping a serious attitude with the resident? True, shooting the kid probably wasn’t the best of ideas, depending on what happened.
