Bolivia’s largest cocaine factory discovered

Bolivian police have found the largest cocaine factory ever discovered in the South American country, with a daily production capacity of 220 pounds (100 kg), an anti-drugs squad chief said on Wednesday.

Holy cow! That’s a lot of snortin’! Good idea to keep it from getting on the streets, but I fear for the safety of those who busted ’em. The drug folks aren’t very nice people.

Agriculture Committee approves less-stringent smoking ban

The Senate bill banned smoking in all workplaces, including bars and restaurants, while exempting private homes and cars along with a few other exemptions such as allowing smoking in tobacco shops.

The Agriculture Committee’s bill has broader exemptions, which include bars, private clubs, small businesses with three or fewer employees, non-enclosed workplace areas like restaurant patios or auto mechanic shops as well as private homes and vehicles.

I guess Mr. Ol’ Broad and I won’t be eating out much in Tennessee since I don’t see anything about a smoking section. Just as well.

McGee discussed homicide, assault

Milwaukee Ald. Michael McGee and two other men discussed killing a man and settled on a “beat down,” District Attorney John Chisholm said in court today.

This slime is a real class act. (Badger Blogger is keeping up with this scuzball.)

Giuliani gets 500G & boos on visit to city

For his 63rd birthday, former Mayor Rudy Giuliani got $500,000 for his presidential bid during a day-long fund-raising sprint through the city yesterday.

He also got an earful from protesters who continue to dog him on his own turf over 9/11.

The protesters, most of whom lost loved ones on 9/11, tracked the Republican hopeful to two of his four stops and did their best to disrupt the festivities by raising questions about Giuliani’s decision-making on 9/11, particularly his failure to replace long-faulty FDNY radios before that tragic day.

9/11 is something that will haunt us all for as long as we live, but I don’t think hounding the person who was mayor at the time makes a whole lot of sense. It won’t change what happened, and it won’t bring loved ones back. Time would be better spent working to make sure it never happens again.

Home sought for baby who survived hanging

Evelyn Frayre, the 8-month-old found hanging by a sweater sleeve from a clothes rod in a makeshift closet next to the bodies of her three sisters and her mother, was released from Cook Children’s Medical Center on Wednesday.

I’m fairly sure there will be a long line of folks who will be more than happy to take care of this precious child.

Bush hits foes of alien bill

President Bush yesterday rebuked members of his own political party for trying to “frighten people” into opposing his immigration bill, prompting a quick backlash from some Republicans.

Honey, we aren’t ‘frightened’. WE ARE PISSED!

Families process trauma of raids

Manuela Martinez cradled her 3-year-old boy in her arms as her three other children huddled close around her, making a tiny living room seem expansive.

It has been that way, she said, since Friday morning, when men in black rushed into their Painesville home and awoke everyone with shouts.

They were federal agents conducting the largest immigration raid the city has seen in years. The men did not find who they were looking for, but they took away Manuela’s sister, who admitted immigrating illegally from Mexico.

I’m sorry the kids are having a tough time, but here’s a thought…..stop putting your kid’s in a position to be scared. There’s legal, and there’s ILLEGAL.
