Sorry – No “Snack”

I haven’t been feeling to swuft today, so I curled up in my chair most of the afternoon, and did some serious dozing.   Still not up to snuff, so I’m going to forgo my usual “Evening Snack”.  So, if you’re tuning in to check it out, sorry ’bout that.

Obviously, I didn’t make it to the Fred Rally this afternoon either.  😦  I really wanted to go, but a four hour drive, one way, when ya feel like ……well, bad… not a good idea.

Simple Solution

Filed under: Borders, Illegals — olbroad @ 7:14

Frank, at Blue Collar Republican, has an extremely Simple Solution to one of our bigger problems these days:

Put a bird feeder in your yard and fill it with bird seed.

It doesn’t take long before the birds learn that a free meal is in the
offing. They come by the hundreds.

Now, empty the feeder. What happens? No more birds.

Take away the free medical care.
Take away the free schooling.
Take away the free welfare.
Take away the jobs.

What happens? No more illegals.
WOW!! What a simple solution!

No need for a border fence at the cost of hundreds of millions of tax dollars.

What could be simpler? 🙂

Airport adds foot basins for Muslim cabbies
Police worry about Kansas City ‘catering’ to Islamic rituals

The Kansas City International Airport has added several foot-washing basins in restrooms to accommodate a growing number of Muslim taxicab drivers who requested the facilities to prepare for daily Islamic prayer, WND has learned.

The move concerns airport police who worry about Middle Eastern men loitering inside the building. After 9/11, the airport beefed up its police force to help prevent terrorist attacks.

“Why are we constructing places of worship for them inside our airports?” said an airport official who requested anonymity. “Why are we catering to their rituals? We don’t do it for any other religion.”

The only thing I can say: You have GOT to be sh*ttin’ me!  (please excuse the language, not the feeling!)

The NFL Backdraft

I’ve been a dedicated fan of professional football since I was a kid. I have the “premium” satellite football package and I’ve had seats for Tennessee Titans games since they first came to Nashville. So you can probably guess what I’ll be doing this weekend. Like a lot of other fans, I’ll be listening to draft guru Mel Kiper, Jr., as the NFL draft plays out in New York.

This year, though, the process of player selection has taken a decidedly political turn. You might even think it was taking place in Washington DC, with the league scolding teams for leaking personal information about prospective players, such as admissions of marijuana use. There have even been reports that top draft picks have been tailed for weeks by private detectives looking for signs of character flaws.

The backstory for this new focus on off-field behavior, of course, is the disastrous public relations season the NFL had last year. So let me turn my attention for a moment from more pleasant topics, like how great Vince Young will be with a year under his helmet, to ask the league brass a few questions.

Here’s one. Why do these teams keep drafting players with character defects you can see at 100 yards in the dark with your back turned?

To use a phrase increasingly familiar to NFL players: Your honor, I give you “Exhibit A” — in this case, one Adam “Pacman” Jones, the sixth overall pick of the 2005 draft. Pacman plays (or did play) cornerback for the Titans. Watching him return a punt through tacklers was like trying to watch a bullet ricochet. As a wag once said about a young baseball player: He can turn out the light and be in bed before it’s dark.

Cheney attacks Democrats again

“Their prevailing mindset, combined with a series of ill-considered actions in the House and Senate over the last several months, causes me to wonder whether today’s Democratic leaders fully appreciate the nature of this danger that the country faces in the war on terror — a war that was declared against us by jihadists; a war in which the United States went on offense after (Sept. 11, 2001); a war whose central front, in the opinion and actions of the enemy, is Iraq,” Cheney said.

Gotta love a guy who says exactly what he thinks. 🙂 Unlike many of the other mealy mouthed, wishy washy Republicans we have in office these days.

How Iran’s Revolutionaries Egged On Attacks in Iraq

The commander of the foreign operations wing of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard met with Sunni Kurdish jihadist leaders in April 2005 to encourage them to launch attacks in Iraq.

If this is accurate, then we’ve been at war with Iran for a while now, and wouldn’t it be better to keep it over there, than have them coming over here? HEAR THAT REID? Peck-o-wood!

U.S. Army: IED Attacks Up, But Not Casualties

Iraqi insurgents are launching four times as many attacks with improvised explosive devices (IEDs) than in 2003, but U.S. casualties from the roadside bombs have not risen — due in part to devices that jam the radio signals that trigger the weapons, Pentagon officials say.

Our troops are learning and adapting, yet the defeatists would prefer surrender. Pathetic.

Frist won’t be charged with insider trading

Frist said in a statement that he “acted properly” and that his only reason for selling stock in his trust accounts was “to eliminate the appearance of a conflict of interest.”

“I’ve always conducted myself according to the highest ethical standards in both my personal and public life, and my family and I are pleased that this matter has been resolved,” Frist said.

Wouldn’t it be nice if all politicians could honestly claim to be ethical, and actually BE ethical?

Urban to Core, Storm Evacuees Give Farm a Try

Frank Stronach bought them a $2.4 million farm.

Well, more of a farm to be, 791 acres of sugar cane fields just outside this town 130 miles northwest of New Orleans. The property is one of the many items, including 49 mobile homes, two police cars and a flock of chickens, procured on behalf of hurricane evacuees by Mr. Stronach, a colorful and controversial Canadian automobile-parts magnate.

What an amazing opportunity! I honestly pray they can make a go of it.

PETA Asks News Organization to Refer to Animals as ‘He’ and ‘She’

In a letter written to Goldstein, the animal activists ask the AP to “take a progressive step and give animals the respect that they deserve by revising AP style guidelines to reflect the usage of personal pronouns for all animals.”

Unless you know the actual gender of the critter, how can you refer to IT as anything other than IT?

Judges order freeing of Libyan terror suspects

The Government’s anti-terror legislation has suffered another serious set-back after judges ordered the Home Secretary, John Reid, to free two men who had been designated for deportation to Libya.

A special court in London ruled that ministers could not rely on assurances given by Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, the Libyan leader, to guarantee the safety of the two terror suspects, known as DD and AS.

Is it any wonder the bad guys believe Western countries are easy targets?

Hold the reforms — Castro is back

Nine months after falling victim to an illness that many U.S. analysts assumed would prove fatal, Fidel Castro appears to have come back from death’s door to resume some leadership responsibilities and rein in Cuba’s would-be reformers.

Some evil just refuses to die.

Flight 93 memorial in Pa. falls short on fundraising

SHANKSVILLE — A two-year campaign to raise $30 million for a permanent memorial for the victims of Flight 93 has fallen far short of its goal, and organizers say they are shifting their strategy to close the gap.

Only $11 million has been collected in the capital campaign for the $58 million memorial, a drive started by groups including relatives of the 40 passengers and crew members killed on Sept. 11, 2001.

Passengers on the hijacked plane were remembered as heroes after the attacks because of their efforts to storm the cockpit and wrest control from the terrorists shortly before the plane crashed in a field.

These are the men and women who fought back, saved lives in D.C. and we can’t give enough to build the memorial?

“We’d hoped to raise more money by now,” said John Reynolds, chairman of the Flight 93 Federal Advisory Commission. “We were concerned we were not doing a good job, but the philanthropic world tells us we did.”

To be honest, I can’t remember if we gave to this fund, but I’m sure going to make it a point to put in a few bucks.

The planners of the memorial, established by an act of Congress in 2002, are “absolutely dedicated to raising the rest of the funding,” Reynolds said.

Congress can find money to store peanuts, but can’t use it for something worth while? Hmmmm….

Construction is tentatively slated to begin in late 2008 or early 2009. A ribbon-cutting ceremony has been planned for the 10-year anniversary of the attacks.

Well, then, I guess we should all get busy and contribute to honor these heroes, shouldn’t we!
