Comedian Richard Jeni dies, apparent suicide

Richard Jeni, a standup comedian who played to sold-out crowds, was a regular on the “Tonight Show” and appeared in movies, died of a gunshot wound in an apparent suicide, police said Sunday.

R.I.P.

Schumer: AG Gonzales Should Resign for Putting Politics Above Law

The Senate’s No. 3 Democrat said Sunday that Attorney General Alberto Gonzales should resign because he is putting politics above the law.

Sen. Charles Schumer cited the FBI’s illegal snooping into people’s private lives and the Justice Department’s firing of top federal prosecutors.

I always get a kick out of politicians, of either party, when they point fingers.

Iraqis Flee City as Militants Burn Homes

Sunni militants burned homes in a mixed city northeast of Baghdad on Saturday and Sunday, forcing dozens of families to flee and raising the specter of a new intimidation tactic in Iraq’s evolving civil war, Iraqi officials and witnesses said.

What is wrong with those people? Isn’t it time to put the long ago history behind them?

French FM: Military strike against Iran unlikely

A military strike against Iran is unlikely even if it doesn’t obey an international demand to stop enriching uranium France’s foreign minister said Sunday during a visit to the United Arab Emirates’ capital.

He’s French! Would you expect him to say anything else? The French (white) flag waving before resolution. How typical.

Travel firms and backbench MPs attack Tory plan to raise air taxes

The Tories proposed to increase aviation taxes yesterday as a weapon to cut greenhouse gas emissions — a policy that will be roundly condemned by Tony Blair and Gordon Brown today.

How on earth does the gubmint stealing money from folks cut greenhouse emissions?

Chemicals May Play Role in Rise in Obesity

Too many calories and too little exercise are undeniably the major factors contributing to the obesity epidemic, but several recent animal studies suggest that environmental exposure to widely used chemicals may also help make people fat.

Now there’s the best reason I’ve come across not to use your ordinary, every day, household cleaning agents, also known as house work. 🙂

Attempted stabbing at FdL party leads to arrest

Police were called to the home where about 30 people were having an “after-bar” party about 5:30 a.m., said Lt. Mick Burroughs of the Fond du Lac Police Department. Alcohol and drugs are contributing factors in the incident.

Aren’t most people sleeping at that time of the morning?

Curb Muslim immigration – Aust party leader

The leader of the Australian Christian Democratic Party, Reverend Fred Nile, says his country should give priority to Christians wanting to flee persecution in Muslim countries.

Mr Nile, a member of the NSW upper house, has called for a 10-year moratorium on Muslim immigration to Australia.

I hate to say it, but I think that’s a pretty good idea. Shouldn’t we be giving asylum to persecuted Christians, instead of letting in Muslims who want to change our country to suit their beliefs?

Our Cal

I’m not often inspired by young folks, but this young fella should be a role model for all conservatives. Is he always right? No, but he is passionate about what he believes, and has gotten very involved, standing up for those beliefs.

Soon-to-be-college student

Calvin Freiburger was a student at Fond du Lac High School in March 2005 when he made national news by taking a defiant stance against school officials who forbid him from saying “God Bless America” over the public address system.

It was the phrase he used to end an announcement about a drive to collect DVDs to send to troops overseas. It wasn’t until the Freiburger contacted a law firm that he was allowed go back on the school’s intercom and use the phrase again.

“I wasn’t really afraid to take a stand. At the time, I guess I was annoyed that there was this misunderstanding. The self-consciousness didn’t kick until the media started contacting me,” he said.

For years, he said, he has looked at the world around him and felt the need to become involved in what he calls “some of its problems.” This past November, he led his own crusade to educate people on his stand supporting an amendment to the Constitution that would define marriage and ban same-sex unions.

“I don’t think we are put on this earth to never stick our necks out for something. Defiance, to me, means not doing it for the sake of being defiant. But if you have something you know is right, it has to be your overriding concern,” he said.

He recites one of his favorite quotes by Winston Churchill: “You have enemies? Good. That means you’ve stood up for something, sometime in your life.”

NO Comparison

HILL: I’M THE JFK OF 2008

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton invoked the campaign of the nation’s lone Catholic president, John Kennedy, last night as she talked about her challenge in becoming the first female commander-in-chief.

“He was smart, he was dynamic, he was inspiring and he was Catholic. A lot of people back then [1960] said, ‘America will never elect a Catholic as president,’ ” the White House hopeful told the New Hampshire Democrats’ 100 Club fund-raiser here.

“But those who gathered here almost a half century ago knew better,” she said. “They believed America was bigger than that and Americans would give Sen. John F. Kennedy a fair shake, and the rest, as they say, is history.”

Noting women are “the majority” of voters and are in the workforce in “record numbers,” she added, “So when people tell me ‘a woman can never be president,’ I say, we’ll never know unless we try.”

Comparing herself to JFK? Is she planning on being assassinated if elected? Because heaven knows, there’s nothing else I can think of that could possibly be a comparison.

“We no longer have a president who puts people first,” she said, citing veterans waiting for treatment, first responders, single moms needing child care, the middle class and the working poor. “You are invisible to this administration.”

Mrs. Clinton, IMO, sees nothing but her own blind ambition. I have no problem with a woman being POTUS, but not THAT woman.

Wordsmith has posted some absolutely terrific pictures at Flopping Aces.  The Dems in Congress are wrong!  The American people are NOT all behind them in their efforts to undermine the troops.

You Are 12% Politically Radical

You’re a very traditional person and perhaps a little resistant to change. In a few more years, your beliefs will be so old fashioned that they’ll be radical!

Are You a Political Radical?

The Psychology of Liberalism

Filed under: From the Left, Moonbats & Other Animals — olbroad @ 11:27

“Liberals, like children, live in a world of utopian dreaminess, clinging to a narrow, circumscribed reality and believing that if everyone would just be nice to each other – let’s talk, let’s chat – all the noisy death threats and pesky suicide bombings would go away, and all those grumpy grownups in the current administration would see the light. And so they do what children do when they’re mad at grownups. They call names.”
